Follow Frenzy: Thank you for the TPT Seller Challenge

Challenge 4 is called Follow Frenzy.  It is a time where we recognize and thank those that we met in the challenge.  This challenge has been a great experience for me in connecting with other teachers.  I have spent so much time focusing on writing investigations that I forgot about connecting with people as well.

This challenge has been inspiring, but it still reminds me of the uphill battle I have in integrating more hand-on science into the elementary classroom.  I received lots of positive feedback.  I think I need to start surveying teachers on what they look for in hands-on science.  I learned that some school districts don't allow any animals in the classroom.  For those teachers my fish investigation would not be relevant.  Even my kids school does not have safety goggles for students.  Through this challenge I hope to continue to connect with teachers and feel inspired to create age appropriate investigations.

Memorable moments in science create memorable and positive experiences in learning.

I now am connected to several pages and blogs that are very helpful.

I learned more about clipart and terms of use.  TPTer's are so nice and helpful.  Everyone seems to want everyone to find success.  I think it makes us all better teachers.

Swapping products was such a great way to get feedback.  I made changes to my investigation and it is better for it.

The 4 teachers that set this up deserve a big round of applause.  I am sure this has kept them busy.

Now that I have more connections I am excited to continue to work on my products.  I have an exciting year of classes planned.  Thank you for stopping by my blog.  Be sure to check out my Facebook and TPT Store too.    Enter the Rafflecopter to be entered to win a digital download of Science Show and Tell.  My first rafflecopter ever!!!

Create Your Masterpiece: Investigating the Affects of Dissolved Oxygen on Fish Respiration

I have been feeling inspired since starting the TPT Challenge.  I am connecting with more teachers.  I am finishing up projects and getting lots of tips.

This weeks challenge was to make your masterpiece.  We then swapped products with another seller to proofread.  I decided I would finish up a wonderful investigation I did with a class this year.  It was a modification on an experiment I did years ago.  This investigation is a step up and teaches a lot of science.

This investigation uses live fish to learn about respiration, dissolved oxygen, and fish. Students will investigate to answer the question:

Does the amount of dissolved oxygen affect the respiration rate in fish?

This investigation meets the *Next Generation Science Standards 3rd-5th Grade Science and Engineering Practices. Students will follow the scientific method to answer the question. Using the pre-reading and their prior knowledge, students will write an educated hypothesis.

Students will be very excited to use live fish in collecting data on the respiration rate. They will count how many times the gill cover opens and closes.   Fish are great to have in the elementary classroom.  After the investigation students will calculate the mean, summarize their data, and analyze the results.

Along with the background information for teachers I added additional pre-reading and follow up reading pages.  I think this will help the students understand and enjoy the experiment even more.

Students will love being able to use live fish. Teachers will enjoy watching students investigate. This is a wonderful way to learn about oxygen depletion on fish.  I think this would be wonderful for Earth Day.

After the experiment you have classroom pets or students could take the fish home.  Simple supplies and great impact.  I bought my fish for only $0.17 each.

Investigating Fish Respiration is now in my store.  It is 20% off May 8th, 9th, and 10th.  Be sure to check it out.
