Science and STEM Lab Back To School Resource Round-Up

The science and STEM lab is a busy place.  The first few weeks are a time to provide opportunities for students to practice the rules and important skills.

We made it easy for you to find the perfect resources to help organize your classroom for the start of the year.

1.  Label, label, and more labels. Divide your students into groups with fun scientist names. We hang them above tables and attach them to our STEM bins. There are so many uses.

2.  Create a science lab safety bulletin board. We keep this bulletin board up all year long. It is a great reference for students and teachers when a group is struggling with lab safety and cooperation.

3.  Your bulletin board is up, and you have established your rules. Are you looking for a way to reward students for their wonderful lab skills? These reward tickets are versatile.  Students love a little recognition.

4.  Create group roles to help improve discussions, cooperation, and success during labs. We love roles that model those found in a real laboratory. Students will improve their cooperative skills when they clearly understand their roles. We also find it helps to keep a cleaner lab—we all need that!

5.  If you are like me, you are terrible at learning names. It can be challenging when you have over 100 students. At one time, I had about 800 students. Students can keep these name plates in their science folders.

6.  Get the parents on the same page.  Students need to know you are serious about lab safety.  Parents should also be aware of the standards set for your classroom.  From day one, implement science safety with a contract.  This is a free download.
