Science Resources for the New TpT Digital Tool: Back to School 2020

Choosing just the right resource for digital learning can be a challenge.  Choosing just the right science activity for kids to complete on a device is even more challenging.

TeachersPayTeachers has a new Digital Tool.  Learn more about it HERE.  We have chosen numerous science activities to use with this resource.  We have not chosen all of our products.

Why you ask?  Because not everything is meant to replace good ole fashion pencil and paper.  Some labs just are not appropriate.

We wanted to share with your our criteria in determining if a resource is good for TpT Digital.

1. Is it too messy to have a computer around?

Slime and digital are probably not a good match.  If the supplies are simple and not too messy than kids can have a device next to them during the lab.

This heart rate lab is fantastic for the TpT Digital Tool.  Students only need themselves and a stopwatch.  Maybe a chair, but they could just sit on the ground.

2.  Will it look good as a demonstration in front of the class or in a video conference?

Sometimes you are not able to have everyone conduct the experiment.  The teacher conducts it at the front of the room.  If a lab is something we feel works well as a demo where all students can see what is happening then you will see it listed as TpT digital.  That also applies to labs that you pre-record for a video class for distance learning.  Can Students see what is going on well?

All of our 30 Minute Labs can use the TpT Digital Tool.  The worksheets are easy to follow and comprehension pages are included.  The demonstrations will keep the kid's attention.

3.  Are supplies simple that students could conduct at home with supervision if needed?

The TpT digital tool is an overlay tool.  It is meant to help teachers assign work in class and for virtual learning.  If the supplies are something students would most likely have at home than we added it to the TpT digital too.

This penny drop lab uses easy to find supplies that can be modified.  If you can't find pennies just conduct with quarters or nickels.

4.  Can it be self-paced?  (As long as it meets other criteria.)

If a lab is something the students can do on their own and at their own pace it is perfect for the tool.  It should be something they don't necessarily have to have a partner for.  They can perform it alone.

If it is too messy or the supplies are not easily accessible then it would not work.

Try our science fair guide.  This guide is used to help students create their own experiments.  It contains complete background information and steps.  Students can work at their own pace and use what supplies they have on hand.  Sending it through the TpT Digital Tool in Google Classroom makes it accessible for the parents to assist.  This is great for when they work on projects at home.

How the Tool Works?

When you search on TeachersPayTeachers.com you will see the word "Digital" under the covers of products that can use the tool.

To begin using the tool check out our tutorial on our blog or in the video below.  It will show how you can start using it for your next assignment.
